Eurogroup President, Paschal Donohoe, travels to France on 29 November 2021
The Minister for Finance and President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe i, will travel to Paris on Monday 29th November for a series of bilateral meetings.
Minister Donohoe will meet with the French Minister for Finance, Bruno Le Maire, and the Governor of the Banque de France, François Villeroy de Galhau.
The core focus of the meeting between the Ministers is the priorities of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU i, and the euro area economic outlook. The strong coordination of economic and fiscal policies across the euro area in order to drive a strong economic recovery is one of Minister Donohoe’s key objectives as Eurogroup President. Growth figures for the third quarter show that the euro area has almost returned to pre-pandemic levels of output, which is a recovery ahead of forecast. However, euro area Ministers are working together to address the risks posed by the development of the pandemic over the winter months and the challenges posed by the stronger than forecasted recovery in terms of higher inflation and supply chain pressures.
The Ministers will discuss the economic governance of the European Union, and the next steps in the completion of Banking Union. During its Presidency, France will also play a key role in chairing EU discussions on sustainable finance and Europe’s implementation of the recent global agreement on corporate tax. Minister Donohoe and Minister Le Maire will hold a joint press conference following their meeting.
As we approach the 20th anniversary of sharing our common currency, the euro, I am pleased to be meeting with my counterpart from Ireland’s nearest EU neighbour and a country that has always been at the heart of the European project. I look forward to working with my good colleague, Bruno, who will bring his energy and intellect in making France’s Presidency of the EU a success. We will be closely coordinating the work of our Presidencies so as to drive Europe’s economic recovery and ensure European investment is meeting the climate and digital transition head on, and enhancing the EU’s global role and competitiveness.
