Portugal organises first European Citizens’ Event of the Conference on the Future of Europe
Portugal will be organising the first “European Citizens’ Event” of the Conference on the Future of Europe, to be held in hybrid format at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon between 15h00 and 17h00 (local time).
The event, organised by the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, is one of the initiatives of the Conference on the Future of Europe and will precede the first plenary session of the conference, to be held in Strasbourg on 19 June.
Also taking part in the “European Citizens’ Event” will be the three Co-Chairs of the Executive Board of the Conference: the Portuguese Secretary of State for European Affairs, Ana Paula Zacarias, the Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Šuica, and the Member of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt.
Apart from the three Co-Chairs, the 27 representatives of the citizens of each European Union Member State, the President of the European Youth Forum and the citizens already selected to take part in the European Citizens’ Panels of the Conference will also be taking part in the session.
The session will be presented and moderated by journalist Daniela Ferreira Pinto.
The event will be broadcast live in the 23 official languages of the European Union via the digital platform for the conference. The event will be broadcast in Portuguese and in English on the Portuguese Presidency's social media.
The Conference on the Future of Europe, a joint initiative by the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission, is aimed at giving citizens an active voice on issues they believe most relevant to the future of the European Union.
All European citizens, European, national, regional and local authorities, as well as civil society and other organisations that want to organise events and contribute with ideas are free to take part in the Conference. Participation is made on the multilingual digital platform, via the decentralised events, the European citizens’ panels or the plenary session of the conference, whose inaugural meeting will be in Strasbourg on 19 June next.
