Minister of Maritime Affairs presents “Ocean Month” under the Portuguese Presidency

Under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Ricardo Serrão Santos, presented “Ocean Month" in Lisbon today, the day that also marks European Maritime Day.

The initiative has its own website on the subject, with the programme for the events where the future and the sustainability of the blue economy and fisheries will be discussed throughout the month of June, as well as the conservation of resources and its role in the post-pandemic economic recovery.

On 8 June, Word Oceans Day, a High-Level Conference will be held in Lisbon on integrated maritime policy: “A Blue Agenda in the Green Deal i”. The European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius i, will be taking part in this conference, which will also include a ministerial meeting.

In partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and the Azores Regional Government, the “All-Atlantic Cooperation in Research and Innovation for Sustainable Oceans: High-Level Conference of Ministers and Stakeholders” will be held from 2 to 4 June in Ponta Delgada in the Azores.

Another highlight will be the meeting of EU fisheries ministers (as well as agriculture ministers in an “Informal meeting of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers - AGRIFISH”), which will also be held in Lisbon, on 14 and 15 June.
