Nearly €2 billion requested in Horizon 2020 security research funding

REA has received 342 project proposals by the deadline of the security research calls on 22 August.

In total, €233.36 million across three calls are available for projects working on a wide range of security challenges, such as security for smart and safe cities and public spaces, novel concepts for the management of pandemic crises, new methods to prevent, investigate and mitigate cybercriminal behaviour, security on-board passenger ships, as well as digital security, privacy and personal data protection in healthcare.

Projects will be selected for funding with the support of external independent evaluators drawn from the European Commission's experts' database. Central evaluations are expected to start on 30 September 2019, and the selection results will be known by the end of January 2020 at the latest. REA will sign grant agreements with the successful applicants in April 2020.
