The European Criminal Prevention Network, meeting in Bucharest
Between 11-12 June 2019, the Romanian Police organized the European Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN) reunion. The event took place in the context of Romania’s holding of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The activity brought together specialists in crime prevention from the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, as well as representatives of the European Commission and Europol.
The main topic addressed was the prevention of victimization of children - online and offline, one of the priorities of the Romanian Police. Minors are a category with a high risk of vulnerability, both in virtual life and in real life, irrespective of the type of offense they might be target of. In this context, it is necessary for prevention activities to constantly focus on children.
Other topics addressed were financial and human resources aspects, as well as defining the concept of “crime prevention” at European level.
The EUCPN (European Crime Prevention Network) activity is governed by Council Decision 2009/902 / JHA of 30 November 2009. The network aims to develop the different aspects of crime prevention at EU level, taking into account the Union’s strategy in this field, and supporting crime prevention activities at national and local level.
The Network Chairmanship is for a period of 6 months according to the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU and between January 2018 and December 2019, Romania is part of the EUCPN Executive Committee.
