Applications invited to fill the post of the next President of the European Research Council
An independent search committee, appointed by the European Research, Science and Innovation Commissioner Carlos Moedas i, is inviting applications for the prestigious post of the President of the European Research Council (ERC i). The committee is chaired by Mario Monti i, President of Bocconi University and former Prime Minister of Italy. It will conduct the search process up to a shortlist of potential candidates to be submitted to the European Commission.
The ERC President should be an internationally renowned and respected scientist. She/he will chair the ERC Scientific Council and will be the voice and public face of the ERC. She/he is expected to be a prominent advocate of frontier research and an ambassador of European science within and beyond Europe, with the aim of strengthening further the ERC's performance and prestige and Europe's science base in frontier research.
The new President of the ERC is due to take office from 1 January 2020. The term of office is limited to four years, renewable once. No age limit applies. Applicants must be nationals of an EU Member State. The deadline for applications is 1 October 2018.
