I. Korčok meets members of EP’s committees for working dinner
Bratislava, 18 May - Ivan Korčok, the State Secretary at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Government Plenipotentiary for the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU, met two MEPs, who are members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, respectively, for a working dinner on Wednesday.
They discussed, first and foremost, Slovakia’s preparations for the Presidency, as well as issues related to the deepening of the economic and monetary union, the building of the digital single market and the energy union, and social rights.
The working dinner was also attended by several lawmakers from Slovakia’s National Council, as well as by Branislav Ondruš, the State Secretary at the Slovak Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and the Family, and senior representatives of the Slovak Ministry of Finance.
“Close cooperation with our partners in the European Parliament will be necessary for the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU in our quest for effective solutions to today’s challenges, such as youth unemployment and the bridging of economic and social disparities between the individual EU Member States,” said Mr Korčok.
During the two days that the European Parliament’s delegation spent in Slovakia, the MEPs also held talks with representatives of selected authorities both at state and regional levels, as well as social partners and representatives of NGOs and the private sector.
When paying visits to the Member State that is about to assume the Council Presidency, delegations of the European Parliament look to learn more about the priorities of the upcoming Presidency and the standpoints of their partners at national level with respect to the key items on the EU agenda.
