Portuguese opposition leader pushes for premiership

Portuguese Socialist leader Antonio Costa said Thursday he is available to take power immediately following the centre-right government's collapse and pledged to comply with eurozone fiscal rules. Portugal's president was due to consult political and business leaders before deciding whether to invite the Socialists to form a government.
