Austria tightens border control

In agreement with Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia, Austria on Monday tightened border controls in a clampdown on smugglers after the bodies of 71 migrants were discovered in an abandoned truck last week. "We are not in violation of Schengen [the EU passport-free system]," Austria's interior minister, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, insisted.
