Report: MEPs to spend more on assistants

MEPs are likely, on Thursday, to vote themselves €18,000 a year more in allowances to pay for assistants, bringing their total staff allowance to €275,000 a year, the FT reports. It says the cost to EU taxpayers will be €1 billion over each parliament's five-year term.
