'The promise of the EU’ conference on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 September
What citizens expect from the EU and the relationship with public service media
The importance of the European cultural integration and the strategic role of public service media. Such is the topic of 'The Promise of the EU' conference, which is organized by the Italian Department for European Policies and the European Commission, during the six-month Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and is held on 12 and 13 September at MAXXI Museum in Rome. The event is realised with the collaboration of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, RAI, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), MAXXI Foundation and FormezPA.
'The Promise of the EU' will be opened on 12 September at 2:30 P.M. by Sandro Gozi, the Italian Undersecretary for European Affairs, after the opening remarks by Giovanna Melandri, President of MAXXI Foundation.
The recent Eurobarometer i survey on the meaning of EU membership and European citizens’ expectations for the future will be then presented. The survey’s findings will be at the heart of the six thematic workshops, to which experts, academics and executives of the radio-TV public services from across Europe have been invited. They will reflect upon the relationship between public service media and citizens in the age of digital convergence.
'The Promise of the EU' will continue on 13 September at 9.00 A.M. with speeches of Antonello Giacomelli, the Italian Undersecretary for Communications, Gregory Paulger, the Director-General for Communication of the EU Commission, Anna Maria Tarantola, RAI President, Jean-Paul Philippot, EBU President, and Silvia Costa, President of the Culture and Education Committee of the European Parliament.
