Experts van Europees visserijbeleid bediscussiëren vraagstukken Europees Maritiem en Visserijfonds (en)
September 29 - October 1 Informal meeting of Directors General for Fisheries will focus on the new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. This is a single meeting of such nature and level organized in each Member State holding Presidency of the EU Council, where relevant strategic issues within the field of fisheries are to be discussed.
During the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting held on July 15 a General Approach on the Proposal for a Regulation on the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (Fund) was reached after intense discussions.
This is a very important agreement for the whole European fisheries sector as the new fund will be the most important instrument to finance the reformed Common Fisheries Policy in 2014-2020.
While implementing the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy financial support from the Fund will be contributed to those measures which ensure sustainable fishing, integrated territorial development of fisheries areas and implementation of integrated maritime policy, also those measures which promote innovative and competitive aquaculture, dissemination of scientific development in the field of fisheries, as well as enhancement of local communities within fisheries regions.
The Directors General of Fisheries Departments of the EU Member States, as well as representatives of European Commission and General Secretariat of the Council will discuss the most important issues of the Fund in relation of which positions of the European Parliament and the Council might be envisaged as mostly diverged.
This meeting will be a final preparation for coordination of positions before trilogues on European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Regulation start with the European Parliament.
