English is studied as a foreign language by 94% of older EU schoolchildren, way ahead of French (23%), German (21%) and Spanish (18%), fresh EU statistics say. It is also the top foreign language spoken by EU adults, except in the Baltic countries (Russian), Luxembourg (German) and Slovakia (Czech).
