Serbia: good work in improving the judiciary

The Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle i met in Brussels today Serbian Minister of Justice and Public Administration, Nikola Selaković, to discuss Serbia's Justice and Public Administration progress towards EU integration.

" As a candidate country, Serbia is expected to align its Justice and Public Administration with the EU acquis and to fight efficiently against corruption. I am encouraged to see what has been achieved under the leadership of the Serbian Minister of Justice and Public Administration since our last meeting in October. This progress provides a good basis for updating Member States before the December European Council.", underlined Commissioner Füle. The European Commission is eager to advise and support Serbia in these efforts which is why Commissioner Füle attaches great importance to a confident and close cooperation with the Minister of Justice and Public Administration.

"With a view to Serbia's path towards EU integration, it is paramount that Serbia is in a position to record a continuous set of positive developments on the European reform agenda," Commissioner Füle added. In that spirit, the Commission is eager to engage in an active policy dialogue with the Serbian government to focus on key EU related priorities. Both agreed to review the progress achieved on the occasion of a plenary meeting of the Enhanced Permanent Dialogue (EPD), in Belgrade at the end of January 2013, in order to take stock of progress in all main areas of the political criteria and jointly discussing Serbia's strategic orientations and operational plans.

Finally, the Commissioner assured the Minister that the Commission stands ready to support Serbia's efforts and make a strategic use of the funds under the Instrument for Pre-Accession in order to achieve its objectives.
