Europese Rekenkamer is het oneens met kritiek (en)
The European Court of Auditors disagrees with the comments made by Maarten Engwirda i, in an interview with the De Volkskrant on 11 January, based on his 15 years of experience as member of the institution.
The Court performs its activities in accordance with the highest international standards of professionalism, independence and impartiality, as shown by the peer review conducted in 2008. The Court’s contribution to improving EU i financial management is recognised by the budgetary authorities of the Union - the European Parliament and Council.
The Court is a collegial body; all its members are free to express their opinions, and are then bound by the final decisions taken. As Mr Engwirda himself states “I always succeeded in getting my own reports adopted without too much amendment.”
All members exercise their duties with independence in accordance with the Treaty. Mr Engwirda takes full responsibility for the views he now expresses, which the Court considers are unfounded.
