Delegatie EESC bezoekt Israël en de Palestijnse gebieden om samenwerking tussen maatschappelijke organisaties te bevorderen (en)

On the invitation of the Israeli and Palestinian Economic and Social Councils a delegation of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), headed by its President Mr Staffan NILSSON, will visit Israel and the Palestinian Territories on 28 November to 1 December.

The aim of the visit is to support the activities of the Israeli and Palestinian Economic and Social Councils as well as boost cooperation between the Councils.

The EESC delegation will meet several Ministers in Jerusalem and Ramallah in order to underline the importance of civil society consultation and the role of Economic and Social Councils to enhance cohesion and dialogue between different economic and social stakeholders and authorities.

Mr Staffan NILSSON stresses that "The importance of cooperation between social partners and civil society organisations in Israel and the Palestinian Territories should not be underestimated. It is vital for the peace process to create confidence and links between economic and social actors on both sides".

During the visit, both bilateral and joint meetings will be held between the EESC and the Israeli and Palestinian Economic and Social Councils in order to discuss future cooperation projects supported by the EESC.

Meetings with President Shimon PERES and President Mahmoud ABBAS will also take place.
