The square Námestí Míru in Zlín will come alive tomorrow, on 23 January, with an interesting programme that will definitely “warm up” all patriots in this winter weather.
European Open-Air Festival: disco for children, jazz and laser show
On the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union an Open-Air Festival - a Multicultural Show with emphasis on the specificity of the Zlín region will take place. This event will be attended by Czech European Commissioner Vladimír Spidla i and other government officials.
The programme will start at 10:00 and at first it will be intended particularly for group visits of students of secondary schools who will be able to view the presentation tents that inform, in both entertaining and educational form, on the issues and activities of the European Union. Theme-based competitions and moderated panels will also take place. In the tent of the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic the visitors will have a chance to participate in a discussion with the representatives of the Ministry and the Office of the Government.
At 14:30 a Sculpture Symposium will start at the square. Professional sculptors will create ice sculptures with EU themes directly in front of the audience. There will be ice blocks available, in case members of the audience would like to try to “sculpt” themselves. During the symposium the popular gypsy band Gulo car will perform on the stage at 14:40.
From 15:45 half an hour will be devoted to children - a great snow disco with Míša Ružicková, full of competitions, games, exercises and songs is planned for them. At 16:30 Dixieland fans will appreciate a Zlín-based group Jazzzubs. 45minutes later popular folk-rock band Docuku from Valašské Mezirící will take the stage. Apart from these events, the presentation “European” tents featuring samples of typical regional specialities will be open all afternoon.
The final event at 18:15 will be a spectacular laser show with a dance performance that was prepared especially for the occasion of this event in Zlín.
The Open-Air festival is organised by the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic in cooperation with the city of Zlín and the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. This event is organised alongside an informal meeting of Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs of the Member States of the European Union that takes place on 22 - 24 January in Luhacovice.
