Topolánek en Poetin bereiken overeenkomst over toezicht op gasleveranties (en)
The Czech Prime Minister and the President of the European Council, Mirek Topolánek i, and the Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin i, have agreed in Moscow on the conditions of monitoring supplies of Russian gas to the EU via Ukraine.
A delegation lead by Mirek Topolánek presented a joint proposal of the Czech EU Presidency and the European Commission to the Russian delegation lead by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
After several hours of negotiations, Prime Ministers Mirek Topolánek and Vladimir Putin reached an agreement.
European Commissioner Andris Piebalgs i confirmed from Brussels that he is ready to sign this agreement. At the moment, only a Ukrainian signature is now missing. On Friday, Ukraine, after the talks with Mirek Topolánek, agreed to the deployment of the monitoring group on Ukrainian territory.
After the meeting with Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek is going to fly again to Kiev, where he will present the agreement to Ukrainian representatives. If they sign it, supplies of Russian gas to the EU are to be restored immediately.
