Joint fact-finding mission of the Czech EU Presidency and the European Commission ends two-day talks with Ukrainian and Russian representatives.
After meeting members of the Ukrainian government, top officials of the Office of the President of Ukraine and top representatives of the Ukrainian Gas industry on Monday evening and Tuesday morning, the joint fact-finding mission left Kiev to meet deputy CEO of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev at 5 PM at the Czech Embassy in Berlin.
The aim of the mission was to collect concrete information on the current situation in the dispute from both parties and report on it to the EU Members States at the informal General Affairs Council on Thursday.
The Russian party provided the joint fact-finding mission with information on measures it had taken to guarantee the functioning of the transit system and to ensure the highest possible level of supplies of natural gas to the EU.
'If the two parties do not find a way to restore regular gas supplies to the EU within days, the Czech EU Presidency will consider organising top level meetings of EU representatives with both their Russian and Ukrainian counterparts', Minister Martin Ríman stated after the meetings with both parties.
