EU delegatie spreekt in Egypte over oplossing van situatie in Gaza (en)

EU Troika delegation led by the President of the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council and Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic, Karel Schwarzenberg, met at the first stop of its Middle-Eastern trip in Cairo with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Aboul Gheit on 4 January.
Minister Schwarzenberg presented EU's concern over the ongoing fighting and the plight of civilians in Gaza, the intention to work efficiently for the improvement of the humanitarian situation and the urgency of a ceasefire. The Egyptian side pointed to difficulties in the delivery of the humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Minister Aboul Gheit also explained his country's view of a Security Council resolution as a prerequisite for the introduction of a ceasefire.
Both sides agreed on their support for President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority. The EU misson continues by the meeting with President Hosni Mubarak on 5 January with the participation of HR/SG Javier Solana i, Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner i and Foreign Ministers of Sweden and France besides the Czech Presidency.
