Raad Landbouw en Visserij: de visserijmarathon (en)
The agriculture and fisheries ministers of the 27 Member States are meeting in Brussels on 18 and 19 December 2008. This last Agriculture and Fisheries Council of the French Presidency will be an important moment for the fisheries sector, as the last one of the year always is.
The fishing opportunities for the coming year should be fixed during this session. The total allowable catches (TAC) should be fixed at European level, along with their distribution between Member States in the form of national quotas.
The annexes to the TAC and quotas regulation will notably determine the management of the levels of fishing effort (number of days at sea authorised, power of the fishing vessel in kilowatts, etc.) along with certain technical measures (authorised equipment, minimum catch size, etc.).
