Plenaire zitting Europees Parlement van 1 tot 4 september 2008 (en)
MEPs will meet on 1 September for a plenary session.
The European Parliament meets every month in Strasbourg for its plenary session. However, this plenary session is exceptionally being held in Brussels and not in Strasbourg, due to the building work taking place in the Parliament in Strasbourg.
The main discussions planned for this plenary session concern justice, the social package, electronic communications and the rules on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures. The Council is also due to present the draft general budget for 2009 in this session.
A number of French ministers intend to travel to Brussels for the plenary session to represent the Presidency of the Council of the European Union at the key debates. In addition to Jean-Pierre Jouyet, Minister of State for European Affairs, who will be at the European Parliament for the entire session, the following ministers are also expected to attend:

-Rachida Dati, Keeper of the Seals and Minister of Justice, will represent the Presidency at the joint debate scheduled for Monday, 1 September on the European Judicial Network, the strengthening of Eurojust and the application of the principle of mutual recognition to default judgments;

-Xavier Bertrand, Minister for Labour, Labour Relations, the Family and Solidarity, will represent the Presidency at the Council and the Commission statements on the social package to be held on Tuesday, 2 September;

-Eric Woerth, Minister for the Budget, Public Accounts and the Civil Service, will represent the Presidency on Tuesday, 2 September at the presentation of the 2009 draft budget;

-Luc Chatel and Eric Besson, respectively Minister of State for Industry and Consumer Affairs and the Minister of State for Forward Planning, Assessment of Public Policies and the Development of the Digital Economy, will represent the Presidency at the joint debate on electronic communications on 2 September.
-Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, Minister of State for Ecology, will represent the Presidency at the oral question on soil protection on Thursday 4 September.
The agenda of the European Parliament plenary sessions is always subject to modification by the Conference of Presidents of the political groups.
