Strasbourg, 12.03.2008 - The Council of Europe Committee of Ministers has today made public the third report on the situation of minority languages in Croatia.

On the basis of this report, the Committee of Ministers calls on Croatia to:

promote awareness and tolerance for minority languages as an integral part of Croatia's cultural heritage in education and in the media;

introduce the teaching of Slovak, Ruthenian and Ukrainian in secondary education;

take measures to ensure that speakers can use their minority languages in practice in relations with the relevant branches of the State administration;

introduce a more significant presence for minority languages on public television and regional radio stations for all minority languages in Croatia.

This report has been drawn up by a committee of independent experts which monitors the application of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
