Selected Principal European Economic Indicators
An overview of the business cycle in the euro area and the European Union
A set of key indicators available daily on a single webpage
Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, launches today a new webpage, bringing together in one single place a set of the most relevant and timely short-term economic indicators for the euro area and the European Union. This webpage provides policy makers, analysts, academics, the media, and the public with essential information for decision making, economic analysis and research.
The Selected Principal European Economic Indicators (PEEIs) webpage includes 22 key indicators, mostly available on a monthly and quarterly basis. The webpage will be updated daily at 11:00 CET, and can be found at the front of the Euroindicators/PEEIs special topic on the Eurostat site at http://ec.europa.eu/euroindicators . The set of indicators is selected from the PEEIs list 1 originally defined by the European Commission, and complemented, in order to give a wider picture of the economic situation, by certain Monetary and Financial Indicators 2 as well as the Economic Sentiment Indicator 3. The content of the PEEIs webpage will be periodically reviewed in order to incorporate further indicators.
The new webpage has a user-friendly structure where, besides data, users can find a set of additional related information such as the dates of the latest and next Eurostat data and news releases, explanations of indicators and metadata in Special Data Dissemination Standard format. In addition, the PEEIs webpage offers for each indicator a direct link to the corresponding Euro-indicators table, which also contains data for the individual Member States, EEA and other non-EU countries.
The tables below present the latest euro area and EU figures for the 22 indicators.
