" Mazovia must make the best use of the € 1.83 billion the European Regional Development Fund will invest in the Polish region", stated Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner today in Warsaw. The Commissioner's speech to the Parliament (Sejmik) of the Mazowieckie Region focused on the new Cohesion Policy 2007-13 and on the development strategy selected by the Mazowieckie region for the forthcoming programming period. During her visit to the region Commissioner Hübner also met with Marshal of Mazowieckie region, Adam Struzik, and President of the Council, Robert Soszynski.
" This is a crucial time for the European Union, for Poland, and for the regions. Since the 1 st of January 2007, Cohesion Policy has entered a new programming period, opening a new chapter in its history. Mazovia now more than ever has the chance to become one of the leading regions in Europe ", said Danuta Hübner i.
The Commissioner met with the Marshal and other regional authorities and discussed progress in the implementation of the Integrated Regional Operational Programme (IROP) and Cohesion Fund projects in transportation and environment in Mazovia for the period 2004-2006, as well as the Regional Development Strategy and the preparation of the future Regional Operational Programme for the region in 2007-2013.
The overall financial allocation for the operational programmes in Poland for 2007-2013 as proposed in the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) sent to the European Commission is € 67.28 billion, in current prices. The Regional Operational Programmes (ROP) for the sixteen Voivodships have a total planned allocation of € 15.99 billion. The Mazowieckie ROP has a planned allocation of € 1.83 billion or 11.5% of the total for the regions.
The draft programme for Mazovia has eight priority axes. The largest allocations are to actions aiming at the creation of conditions to foster entrepreneurship in the region, increasing its innovative potential, and improving the regional transportation system. In particular, a significant proportion of the funds will also be earmarked for the development of the role of cities in the development of the region, aimed mostly at the sub-regional centres.
